Well-known ingredient supplier has a vacancy for an NPD Specialist who has formulation exp in the meat and poultry sector. You will develop products, do trials with customer and supplier input, keep abreast of regulatory requirements and the application thereof. Initiate and drive all meat and poultry ingredient development projects – research and development of ingredient solutions specifically
related to the meat and poultry industry (single ingredients, batch packs, spice packs, brines, etc.).
Formulate products to comply with ALL relevant regulations (national and international) e.g. DOH, DAFF, CPA, CODEX, etc.
Be able to validate results based on performance and regulatory compliance.
Formulate products to conform to both performance and cost parameters.
Explain and motivate development rationale.
Be accountable to reach deadlines and performance targets.
Be aware of competitor environment – offering, performance, price cost in use.
Develop a standard solution range that outperforms current available products and develop customer specific solutions.
Meeting & liaising with sales team / customer over product briefs and development of new products according to customer specification /
brief - new, match, improvement of products for customers.
Liaise with current supplier network and tap into their knowledge base to develop new offering.
Search and identify other suppliers that can add value to product offering and development projects.
Manage and oversee meat laboratory and test kitchen. Keep the facility in line with company requirements and internal department health, safety and hygiene requirements.
Stock meat lab with ingredients and managed expiry and quality control.
Build up sample library with appropriate products.
Request samples and manage as per quality procedures – develop in house protocols if required.
Carry out all practical trials in-house, keep accurate records and be able to verify result trial – both handwritten and database.
Carry out pilot plant trials with supplier and customer inputs.
Host customer visits and collaborative sessions.
Scale up pilot trials and oversee actual production trials as processing plants. Record, analyze and assess results in order to adjust
formulations if required.
Overseeing up-scale of recipe from development phase to factory trials & manufacturing.
Develop and review production processes – both for new products, and to change production parameters at customer plants.
Source new raw materials & packaging where applicable and make sure this is carried through to specifications and production departments.
Create baseline framework for Bill of Material to be signed off.
Work closely with production departments to ensure that development product are successfully commercialized.
Sensory analysis for customers & internal evaluation, shelf life testing and evaluation final product performance as to the original brief.
Third Party Contact:
Liaise on a regular basis with customers, industry, standards, regulatory and statutory bodies.
Liaise with suppliers.
Communicate effectively and clearly with Technical, Quality, Sales, and production departments.
Travel as and when required for customer contact and production trials.
Be able to troubleshoot and identify process changes to ensure successful rollout of a new product.
Stay abreast of local and global developments and innovations.
Know the competitor environment and constantly advance competitive advantage.
Systems and Procedure:
Institute quality and document control procedures for products developed.
Comply with Document and Quality procedures in line with ISO and FSSC requirements.
Implement efficient document control to ensure that only valid documents are utilized across the whole organization.
Responsible for ensuring that all products comply with legislation, including labelling regulations. Be abreast of new legislation and
Completion of customer questionnaires and internal safety data sheets as well as product data sheets.
Document control of new product development process.
Assisting with & monitoring of quality control, factory hygiene & adherence to health & safety procedures.
Ensure compliance with all legislative regulations.
Development of internal & external specifications for products.
Completion of raw material information questionnaires.
Assisting with procedures & documentation for the Food Safety Management System.
Tertiary qualification in Food Science / Food Technology.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in food industry, preferably in meat & poultry formulation of batch packs.
Good knowledge of chemical food ingredients and how they work and function in protein systems.
Good knowledge of laboratory practices.
Knowledge of micro-organisms, microbiological tests & results.
Knowledge of chemical analysis such as Brix, pH, acidity & viscosity.

Technical Manager - Personal and Home Care
Personal Care/Home Care
Technical Manager who has exp developing products in the Personal- and Home Care sectors req for well-known raw material supplier. The
incumbent will be client facing and also liaise with principles on raw material applications. Project management exp is essential. Should

Assist customers with technical development of Personal Care and Homecare products.
Technical development on new product launches.
Ingredients substitution testing.
Joint customer visits at Key Accounts with the sales team and working closely within the sales team providing technical support.
Managing and writing Editorial and Advertorial in Key Personal Care and Homecare magazine.
Interacting with Technology Partners on raw materials.
Involvement in all customer complaints to completion.
Attending conference and workshops in the Personal Care and Homecare industry.
Participating member of Coschem and CTFA.
Understanding the latest trends and share them with customers together with tracking of new blends.
National or abroad travel when required.
Troubleshooting at customers.
Assist in raw material sourcing.
Managing and monitoring new product launches.
Product training to sales team.
Managing microbiological lab and development lab.
Active involvement with manufacturing team.
BSc Chemistry Degree or related.
Minimum 6 years Technical experience within the Personal Care and Homecare industries.
Must have project management experience.
Prior experience in setting up a laboratory for testing evaluations will be of benefit.
Must currently be in a technical development position within the Personal Care/Homecare industry.
Must currently deal with customers/suppliers.
